There is a thriving industrial sector with numerous engineering shops supporting the sugar growers, the sugar mill based at Riverview (which also has its own engineering section) , the timber harvesters and some small scale manufacturers. Many of these small to micro sized engineering companies also do work for larger companies based in Richards Bay and Empangeni. There are also a host of motor vehicle repair shops based within the Industrial area which is on the south eastern edge of the town.
