Most of the contractors operating within
the Elephant Coast and iSimangaliso Wetland Park service the tourism
industry and associated infrastructure within Umkhanyakude District
Municipality
Umkhanyakude district municipality is a vast rural area in the north east
corner of KZN South Africa and borders on both Swaziland and Mozambique. There
are very few factories and no heavy industrial sites within the
entire region.
In the past one had to rely on out side contractors to do almost any work as
the area was so poorly developed. During the last few years the government has
spent huge amounts of money upgrading infrastructure and putting in new
roads.
There has also been a large increase in government social
spending within Umkhanyakude District Municipality.
This has allowed the tourism industry to grow and become the largest
economic sector within Umkhanyakude KZN South Africa, opening the doors
to many small contractors especially within the building and maintenance
sectors.
