There are a great deal of water birds in the water pans and on the lake itself

many of the wild birds visit the gardens within the town and the whoopoo is a great favourite of mine.

There are a great deal of birds and wonderful oportunities to do some fantastic bird watching. We have sea birds on the ocean front, water birds in the lake and surrounding wetlands, forest birds in the dukuduku forest, which consists of both swamp forest and sand forest, open plains birds found in the savannah grass lands and even a host of domesticated birds within the town of St. Lucia itself There are a host of butterflies and moths in the area as there is an extremly high bio diversity within the region.

Owls are quite shy and if you do not know where to find one you may never see one. Our guides will make sure you see a few

I know the members of the local bird whatching club and more importantly those who do bird whatching tours.

plovers are quite common within our region, you shoild be sure to see a few whilst in St. Lucia

I Know many of the skippers who do deap sea charters and can arrange a fishing trip for you and your friends
whale31s.gif (4952 bytes) For those who are not afraid of the dea blue water of the ocean there are whale watching trips during the season, or deapsea fishing charters all year round, depending on the weather of course. There are beach drives with the opportunity to see turtles laying their eggs and a few months later trips to watch the same eggs hatching and the young turtles darting off to the relitive saftey of the ocean.

there are some large lizards in the parks as well as huge crockodiles which may be seen if you take a boat trip up the estuary

Camping trips and overnight hiking trails within the Cape Vidal reserve on the eastern Shores of the lake are becoming poular .

The lake has many hippos, becareful !!! they are dangerous.

The lake has a great deal of hippos as well as crocs and if you take a boat trip up the estuary you should get an opportunity to see a few  from real close
There are quite a few game reserves in the immediate area where one can find the big five, lions, buffalo, leopard, elephant and rhino For those interseted in game viewing and the big five, there are many  game reserves all within two hours drive of St. Lucia, including the world famous reserves  such as Hluhluwe, Umfolozi, Mkuze, Mapelane and Cape Vidal and a host of small private reserves wich offer accomidation as well as great walking trails, night drives in an open vehicle with in the reserves, fishing and photography trips and other interesting activities like canoeing on the lake with the crocodiles and hippos as well as seeing the fish eagles overhead.

There are some good fishing and diving spots in the area.
