Why should you Register your site with a search engine
There are three ways of finding information on the internet, the first is going
directly to the page concerned because you were informed of the page address through some
form of advertising, and the second is by pure chance or luck and the last but most
important way is by
using a search engine.
If you want your information to be found you must utilise the first and last options.
Placing adverts in the print media, radio and television can be costly, and needs to be
evaluated with the target market of your information kept in mind at all times.
Registering your URL (Uniform Resource Locator or complete web page address) with a search
engine needs the same consideration as, if not more than, placing an advert in any of the
other media.
If your advert is not printed it can not be read by your intended target market, and if your web page is not registered with a search engine your information can not be found by searching the internet. Registering your website with a search engine is a simple, but time consuming task, provided you have all the required information at hand, before you register your URL with any search engine be sure to have all the following information at hand

Your credit card details or details of your prefered internet payment method, unless you
are using a free service.
- The complete web address which should read some thing like this www.site_name.co.za/your_subweb/your_page.htm
- The page title, which should be within the first few lines of the HTML code of the page.
- The page description which should
also be within the first few lines of the HTML code, but seldom is.
- The key words list which should also be within the first few lines of the HTML code. You do not need to use the words in the same order, as within the key words list of the page. Some search engines only allow a few words in the list which recieve higher priority, but do utalise the rest of your list within their database, with a lower priority.
- Your company or organisations contact information such as phone number, e-mail address, physical address and other relevant contact information.
- Your company or organistions type of business, and a good business description.
- A break down of your intended target market, or who should
have a look at your pages.
With all the above information ready go to any search engines home page and look for
the link which will allow you to register your web site. Click on the link and follow the
instructions. These instructions are mostly simple things like typing in the information
